The construction of the second phase of PaddingtonCentral will complete one of the most ambitious commercial development projects in London, providing a unique commercial district within the City of Westminster. The public realm of the scheme will provide an environment that complements the modern nature of the buildings, and provides articulation of the narrow linear site that extends from the highly successful Sheldon Square, completed as part of the Phase 1 scheme, completed in 2002. A series of dynamic planes will intersect the central axis and provide fluidity and lateral movement to the linear corridor. A strong emphasis on lighting and public art as well as temporary landscape elements will compliment the high quality finishes of Phase 1. The site, which is defined by transport infrastructure, will also accommodate the tunnel head site of the central London section of the Crossrail scheme east-west link through London to Stratford and beyond by 2012.
